Senior Police Officers

Hampshire Police Authority is responsible for the appointment of all police officers at ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) rank. These officers are:

  • Chief Constable
  • Deputy Chief Constable
  • Assistant Chief Constable - Territorial Operations
  • Assistant Chief Constable - HR and Operations
  • Assistant Chief Constable - Crime and Criminal Justice
The appointments are made by the Chief Officer Appointment Panel, convened by the Authority when vacancies arise. The Appointment Panel is made up of Councillor members from all political parties represented on the Authority, and an independent member. The Chief Constable also acts as an advisor to the panel for the rank of Deputy Chief Constable and below. For the Chief Constable appointment, a representative from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) will be present.
