New website aims to bring Hollywood to Hampshire
From historic castles and picturesque villages, to forests and seaside scenes – film makers now have an even greater array of locations to choose from thanks to Film Hampshire, an initiative funded by Hampshire County Council.
A new brochure has gone out to location managers and production companies to encourage filming in the county, while a new website, www.filmhampshire.org.uk has also gone live, featuring over 320 locations in 19 categories: these include churches and cathedrals, country houses, public buildings, villages, farms, castles, parks and forests, beaches, wharfs and quays, industrial areas, shopping centres, offices, museums, zoos and amusement parks, stadiums and sports facilities, and gardens.
The website includes photographs of locations as well as practical information on access issues and the availability of parking. Location managers will be able to use the site to research the range of locations on offer in the county, and then email the Film Hampshire team with details of their requirements such as timings and the size of the film crew. In addition to film locations, a services section of contacts has also been developed of other film-related businesses such as props, costumes and professional experts in the county.
Film Hampshire has dealt with over 70 filming enquiries for the county in the past year and recent filming has included TV adverts for car-maker Subaru and Ginsters of Cornwall as well as several television documentaries including the BBC’s Crimewatch.
Hampshire has also been a location set for feature films such as ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’, as well as television dramas and documentaries such as ‘The Bill’, ‘Foyles War’, and ‘In Search Of Medieval Britain’.
Anyone who would like to suggest potential locations to be included on the Film Hampshire website can contact Hannah Payne on 01962 845745 or e-mail hannah.payne@hants.gov.uk. There is no charge for sites to be included on the Film Hampshire website.
