Farm Business Advice Service (FBAS)

FBAS Enquiry Line on 0845 365 1257

Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

To help farmers understand and adapt their business to the implications of the Single Payment Scheme, Defra is funding a specialised service that runs from 4th Oct 2005 until 31st March 2007.

The new, restructured Farm Business Advice Service (FBAS) offers free, targeted advice to SPS claimants in England, identifying and exploring options such as restructuring, farm diversification and alternative sources of income.

The service is free and takes the form of confidential, one to one advice to address the farmer’s business aspirations. Farmers who have relatively straightforward enquiries may be helped via telephone advice from a trained adviser, whilst more complex cases will be examined at a clinic session at a venue relatively near the farmer’s business. The most complex issues will require a half-day farm visit by an adviser.

Eligibility Criteria

•You must be a farmer in England claiming the Single Payment
•You must be involved in the core farming business either as a landowner, a keeper of farm animals or a grower of crops
•The farm business must be classified as a small or medium sized enterprise (SME).
•The business must not have received more than 100,000 Euros (approximately £68,000) in State Aid over three years
